We "pulled out of the driveway" on July 18th to head to our first location, only 45 minutes from our house! Valley View RV Resort in Layton, UT was our first site. Just south of Hill Air Force Base, we were greeted with flyovers every morning and afternoon, but in a cool way. Yes, they were loud, but it's very cool to see military jets flying over while you are out walking the dog. I'm sure I am not using the correct term for aircraft, but you can learn all about them here.
Valley View RV Resort opened in November 2022, so everything is brand new. There's a pool, pickleball courts, dog area, playground, numerous bathroom/shower rooms and a two laundry rooms. A couple of our neighbors commented after finding out this was our first site, that we may have set the bar very high! There was even a food truck each Thursday night, which was a fun option and right up our alley. It's worth checking out if you need a place close to Salt Lake City. The clubhouse even accommodates Amazon packages being delivered. No need to cut off our Amazon addiction quite yet.
The purpose of our stay was to get our rig set up with solar and batteries so we can go off-grid and do some boondocking. Everything got installed, but we are having some overheating issues with the auto-transformer that is the brains of the operation. Breakers keep popping even when our load isn't that high. Boo.
We already had a site booked in Anaconda, MT for July 29th, so the option to stay and get things fixed right then and there was a no go. Chad has done a ton of research and has been in constant contact with the electrician installing our stuff to come up with a solution. Some different equipment is on order, with the plan of a re-install/fix happening the week of August 14th. The electrician said he was willing to meet us in Idaho, so a site is booked in Pocatello to get our rig completely functional. Fingers crossed.
Thankfully, Montana has cooler weather than the 102 degrees we were experiencing in Layton. We have had to be a bit strategic on what power loads are pulling at the same time to avoid popping breakers, but not to worry, we are not suffering!

There's rain in the forecast, but we do have a tee time booked at Old Works Golf Course that is right next door. It was designed by Jack Nicklaus and is sure to be a challenging course. Time to dust off our clubs and see if we still remember how to play!
