Austin, TX: week two

The Salt Lick: traditional bbq place

We ate.

After the first place we tried was closed for the day, we hit The Salt Lick for some yummy bbq. Again, if you snooze you lose, because smaller establishments close when they sell out for the day. Tip: if you want bbq, plan it for lunch and you may have better luck than we did!

The Silos in Waco, TX

We shopped.

If you are a fan of the HGTV show "Fixer Upper", you know about Chip & Joanna Gaines' Magnolia Marketplace located in Waco, TX. Last Saturday we made the 85 mile drive north of Austin to check out the grounds. They have done it up right! It was very organized, had beautiful grounds, with lots of nice things to browse through. I bought lip balm and we enjoyed cupcakes from their bakery. With our limited space, we really make more mindful decisions about what comes home with us! Well, most of the time.

We shopped some more.

We experienced Buc-ee's for the first time. It's a convenience store and gas station on steroids. I would guess it is the size of a Walmart inside and you can buy almost anything here. There's a beef jerky counter, fudge counter, brisket and pulled pork sandwiches counter, it has any snack you can think of, as well as clothing and housewares sections. It was an experience! If you have the chance, you need to experience it, too. It was pretty fun.

We spent some time in nature.

Mayfield Park was a great place for wandering around little paths, seeing some peacocks (I think we saw six of them!), strolling along Lake Austin, and having a picnic.

The wheels hit the pavement again on Saturday, so we hope to catch some live music somewhere tonight to round out our Austin experience. Next stop is Alvarado, TX to have some warranty work done on the Newmar. Rest assured, we won't be looking at any other RVs along the way this time and making a switch. We are loving our Newmar SuperStar!
